While everyone is busy improving their economy state, Malaysian's government is at the same time busy in some other issues.
Firstly, they have issued a rulling, called Fatwa, to ban yoga because of the fear that its hindu roots will corrupt Muslims. I don't see any interference between yoga and the religion. Yoga is always known as a good sport or exercise. Since when it connects to religion? It is a medication exercise. I have not seen anyome promote yoga through religion, but yet the Chairman of Malaysia's National Fatwa Council said that it could "destroy the faith of a Muslim". What the..?!
See BBC News.
OK fine. It is not legally binding. We say, let it go.
So now, how about awarding a Datukship to foreign celebrities? Malaysia is awarding the title of 'Datuk' to the famous Bollywood actor, Shah Rukh Khan on 6 December, because he files the movie, One 2 Ka 4 in Malacca and he brings tourists to Malaysia. I honestly think he is a great actor, but what is his connection with Malaysia? I thought datukship is only for Malaysian who contribute to the country, who bring fame to the country. I didn't know it can be awarded to any foreigner too?! The only connection here is perhaps he is a Muslim. But.. but.. his wife is a Hindu. So, if Malaysia is concerned about hinduism corrupting the faith of their muslims, maybe they need to think twice about this too?
It's Malaysia's indendence day today, 31st August.
Selamat Hari Kebangsaan, Malaysian!
My flatmate, Linds went to London and found out that they have Malaysian Week in London now. Today is the last day. :(
But, it is very kind of her to bring me some food back from London. LOL
I don't know what they are called. I usually called them 'kuih'. hehe.. They are colourful right? They are three different kind of 'kuih'. They are Malay food. The green one comes with rice at the bottom. The yellow one is made from cassava i think. The pink one... er.. just flour with sugar? Anyone out there, please help me with more description? I only know how to eat them. hahaha..
I'm really surprised that they taste just like those we have in Malaysia. LOL
Extra notes: my cousin told me just now, both the pink one and the green one are called "kuih lapis". 'Lapis' means layered. =)
Here is some
update of the political situation in Malaysia.
Malaysia had its election on Saturday and it created a new entry in its history!
The government party, Barisan National suffers the worst results in its history since 1969, by losing FIVE states, i.e. Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Perak and Penang, to the opposition (DAP-PKR-PAS)! Ministers who lost their seats are Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu (ex-President of Malaysian Indian Congress), Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (Minister of the Women's Affairs), Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin (Information Minister) and Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon (President of Parti Gerakan Rakyat). All the heavyweight one!
The most shocking one is Selangor. The BN only won ONE seat out of eleven in the
Kuala Lumpur! They also lost in Penang, the hometown of Abdullah Badawi (our
Prime Minister)!! And now, the Chief Minister in Penang will be replaced by
someone from the opposition party.
"I think the people must have been very angry, all the races, Chinese, Malays and Indians," Mahathir said.
"The problem is we (the government) have become so arrogant. We suppress any opinion that we do not like and they begin to believe in their own reports which are not actually consistent with what is happening in the country." - http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/79499
He is absolutely right! The government had taken things for granted for many years. They need to be reminded about their responsibility and our interests.
As a result of the defeats, BN is denied the 2/3 majority needed in the Parliament to amend the Constitution! Is Malaysian government losing its legitimacy and strength? What is going to happen next?
Is Abdullah responsible for the lost?
